The Colorado Rockies do not appear ready to contend for a division title, but are at least gaining relevancy as they kick off a six-game road trip with four contests against the Miami Marlins beginning Friday. Nick Wittgren, Kyle Barraclough, David Phelps and Dustin McGowan would combine for three and a third’s scoreless innings, not allowing a single Rockie to reach base.an excellent showing out of the pen.

Rockies RHP Tyler Chatwood (8-4, 2.89 ERA) is scheduled to start Saturday against LHP Wei-Yin Chen (4-2, 4.68 ERA).

His final line on Friday: 5 2/3 innings, one hit, five walks, one run and five strikeouts.

The next inning, Butler again surrendered three straight hits to start the inning, including a stinging three-run blast from J.T. Realmuto.

“There’s a lot of deception there”, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Conley’s delivery.

But much like his opponent Conley, Gray’s night unraveled in the sixth. “I was able to get six innings, and that’s one thing I’m proud of”. The righty threw a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the second inning and the Marlins winning 1-0, and called trainers and coaches to the mound for a conference. He also had a scratch single and a walk in four plate appearances, raising his average to.200. Colorado 3B Nolan Arenado (.290) leads the NL with 20 home runs and 57 RBIs, and the majors at his position with a.995 fielding percentage.3. “Obviously it’s always good to get a couple of hits”.

Pinch-hitter Ichiro Suzuki lined a single to center for career hit No. 2,980. When that lone hit first arises in the sixth inning, maybe you feel like you’re under-selling the performance a bit. The Rockies showed up in Miami on Thursday with their entire roster of players wearing white. And his 2.89 ERA was by far the best among Colorado’s starters. The one mistake cost Gray the game although one hit on the night for the Rockies’ offense hardly means the starting pitcher is to blame.
