The court said it had read the script “in entirety to see if the film encouraged drugs” but found that it did not challenge the sovereignty and integrity of India with its references.

The upcoming Bollywood Crime Thriller movie which is being facing troubles from Censor Board from past few days is Udta Punjab.

“Udta Punjab”, produced by Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, deals with the issue of substance abuse in Punjab.

Nihalani also hit back to the producer of the film and said they did’t asked them to cut the word “Punjab” from the title. So it is very much possible that someone from the Central Board of Film Certification might have advertently or mistakenly leaked the film on the web. There is no mention of the word “censor” in board.

The Bombay High Court yesterday asked the CBFC to clear the film with just one cut, make changes in the disclaimer and stamp it as an adult film, all within 48 hours.

The movie, starring Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor, is scheduled for release on June 17.

Last week the court told defence lawyers the film industry was “not made of glass” to be handled with care and added that there was no need for excessive censorship as the public was the “biggest censor”. Kashyap then condemned Nihalani for his dictatorial ways.

However, the film’s team managed to remove it online on war footing from torrent sites, Indian Express said in a report.

It also quashed the June 6 order passed by the CBFC’s revising committee directing for a total of 13 changes in the movie.

Earlier, the CBFC had directed 89 cuts in the film before its release.

Anurag Shrivastav said, “We acknowledge the verdict of the Bombay High Court”.

“You can not ask us to delete MP, elections or Parliament from the film because it is relevant to what’s happening in Punjab right now”.
