The former Voice contestant was fatally shot by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl – who was quickly tackled by Grimmie’s brother Mark before shooting himself. But even prior to The Voice, she started posting videos to YouTube as a teenager and amassed a large following thanks to her covers of popular music.

Grimmie’s YouTube channel has more than 3.2 million subscribers, and her album of videos have a combined 378,340,670 views.

Police have confirmed that the 22-year-old singer, who starred on the U.S. version of the talent show, died of her wounds after an unnamed man opened fire on her when she was signing autographs after a gig in Orlando.

The Voice star was killed by a crazed gunman as she signed autographs for fans outside a concert in Orlando, Florida.

“That would be speculation, but that’s what it’s looking like”, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said.

Earlier, the “Hands to Myself” singer cancelled her meet and greet session for the same show to mourn for her friend’s death.

Her brother tackled the gunman, who then shot himself dead, local police said.

Police credit Marcus’ heroic actions for preventing the gunman from hurting others. At the time of the shooting, 120 people were inside the venue, which was being patrolled by unarmed security guards, Mina said. We love you so much Grimmie. It’s still unclear what his motive was. Lovely member of “The Voice family” and true fighter.

“Words can not begin to describe the pain I am feeling”, Gomez’s stepfather Brian Teefey, who was also Grimmie’s manager, told PEOPLE in a statement.

“She’s very talented and she’s worked incredibly hard – it’s a unsafe combination”, her brother Mark Grimmie told the newspaper at the time.
