Hellickson walked Donaldson and Encarnacion to start the inning.

The Blue Jays optioned pitchers Aaron Loup and Scott Diamond to AAA Buffalo following their 11-3 win over the Phillies on Tuesday. “I made some mistakes and they hit it out, so I tried to keep going and tried to keep executing”. Goins drove in a run with a groundout later in the inning, and Travis added an RBI single to make it 7-2.NOTES: Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (sprained right knee) was not in the lineup for the third straight game, and was scheduled to undergo an examination by team doctors that manager Pete Mackanin described as “precautionary”.

Stroman then walked Freddy Galvis, but recorded three consecutive outs to escape further damage. Philly has been playing well in interleague games of late and while they were pounded in each of the last two they do have a good shot here, especially if the Jays bats cool off.

The two sides will resume hostilities on Wednesday in Philadelphia for another two-game series, the start of a five-game road journey for the Blue Jays that will also take them to Baltimore on the weekend. Marco Estrada (5-2) allowed two runs and four hits, striking out five in 6 2-3 innings. The right-hander had six strikeouts in his first win since May 18. “That showed me he’s back”. That had kind of deserted him a little bit. He might have the best changeup in baseball. “You can’t let starts like that get to you”. He’s thrown 85 1/3 innings and the team has him on an innings limit.

Zach Eflin seems like he gets it. I hope he goes out there and strikes out 12 jamokes in his next start. “He normally locates a lot better than he did”. He turned in a treat on Wednesday, with nine strikeouts and one walk while scattering seven hits and allowing just one run against the Brewers. After walks to Josh Donaldson and Encarnacion and a double steal, Russell Martin chased in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Oh, and he scored Toronto’s third run in that fourth inning, ushered home on a line-drive double by Travis that went over Cody Asche’s head, but Travis was thrown out attempting to take third on the same play. Third baseman Andres Blanco was charged with an error on Bautista’s grounder and Donaldson followed with an RBI double.

But there was Double-E, for the second time in four days – which would also be his second time all season – busting a gut and staking thievery-claim to a bag, chugging for second, which had just been vacated by Donaldson. The grand slam, his 15th home run of the season, was the third of his career and second this year.

Eflin was happy despite the results.

“Oh it was awesome”, he said. Girodo pitched a scoreless inning in relief, and Burns flied out as a pinch hitter. I was just leaving stuff up. But this is the big leagues, so it’s tough.

Although the Phillies are throwing out two pretty good pitchers for these games, I have a feeling the Blue Jays are going to roll through these two match-ups. Barney grounded out against Oberholtzer to end the inning. Defensively, Barney remained in the game at shortstop and Ryan Goins moved to Saunders’ spot in left. He’s 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings pitched with the Bisons.
