The festival hosted Bowie’s last ever United Kingdom live performance back in 2004, and festival organizer John Giddings called on the audience to pay tribute by wearing David Bowie masks, sold to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

Backstage, the first tasting was held for The Who’s own-brand of Champagne called Cuvee Roger Daltrey, selling at £95 a bottle, which has been produced to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary. “I hope you enjoy it as much as I do”.

The Who drew a massive crowd to the Main Stage at the Isle of Wight Festival on Saturday night.

He told the crowd: “Thank you to the rock “n” roll royalty that I get to share a stage with, Brian May and Roger Taylor”. We had only run the track back once.

The Busted singer embraced his inner diva at the Isle Of Wight Festival, refusing to go anywhere without his bodyguard. Also because as a 13-year-old boy in 1973 that was a song that first introduced me to David and changed my life. “David has guided everybody and his legacy is the complete history of rock since”, he added”.

He said: “I’ve met him a few times”. The festival also welcomed The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft along as special guest, who performed ahead of The Who’s set bringing out all the hits including Bittersweet Symphony, Lucky Man and The Drugs Don’t Work as well as music from his new album These People.
