Finding Dory blows animation record out of the water
Finding Dory is having a swimming time at the Box Office has it has been confirmed this evening that the animated movie has not only won at the Box Office this weekend, but it has set a brand new record.

That figure is just shy of Saturday’s 0 million estimate, but well above the $100 million pre-release projections – and more than enough to topple the previous record holder, 2007’s “Shrek The Third” ($121.6 million). It was the biggest Pixar weekend in China with $17.5 million and biggest Disney-Pixar debut in Australia with $7.6 million. What did you expect?
The long-awaited sequel to 2003’s “Finding Nemo” was only expected to gross as much as $120 million in ticket sales, according analysts. And many were moms bringing along the kids, of course – maybe dads were getting some precious alone time?- as 66% of the audience was under 25.
New Line’s “The Conjuring 2” snagged second place on the charts, amassing $41.9 million from 57 territories.
“The film simply obliterated expectations, and in true Pixar fashion, delivered a ideal family movie-going experience that proved irresistible to all audiences”, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore.
Disney has had a series of box office successes and Finding Dory is just another one. “These two comedians are just stars”.
Central Intelligence follows a one-time bullied geek, Bob, who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent (Dwayne Johnson), coming home for his high school reunion.
“Central Intelligence” cost a reported $50 million to make and scored especially well with younger audiences, who the studio hopes will propel word-of-mouth business in weeks to come.
Universal is handling the worldwide release for “Central Intelligence”, and Warner Bros.is distributing it in the U.S. The next major comedy releases don’t come until mid-July with “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” and “Ghostbusters”.
Pulling up the rear of the weekend box office’s top five was Warner Bros.’ “The Conjuring 2” ($15.6 million in Week 2), Lionsgate’s “Now You See Me 2” ($9.7 million) and Universal’s “Warcraft” ($6.5 million).
Rounding out the top ten films of the weekend were: – “X-Men: Apocalypse” (US$5.2 million) – “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” (US$5.2 million) – “Me Before You” (US$4.2 million) – “Alice Through the Looking Glass” (US$3.6 million) – “Captain America: Civil War” (US$2.3 million). Yet, the thirst from movie fans for “Finding Dory” is a bright spot after a disappointing few weeks of early summer releases.
Final numbers are still being tallied, but it looks like revenues will be down roughly 4 per cent.
