Internet users have expressed their reactions to the attacks on social media, with many praising the woman for saving her son. Pitkin County sheriff’s deputy Michael Buglione (BOO-lee-oh-nee) says the woman found the lion crouched over her son biting his head Friday outside their home near the resort town of Aspen.
News reported the child suffered injuries to his face, head and neck in the attack. “The mother sustained minor injuries to her hand and legs”.
Forest service officers killed the mountain lion hiding under trees by the family’s home. DNA tests indicate that mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains are inbreeding, another sign of the challenges facing the species struggling to survive in the midst of one of the nation’s most densely populated urban regions. On Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman told the Times she was not authorized to release any details on his condition.
The US have experienced in recent days several various tragic events involving risky animals, including the death of a 2-year-old boy caught by an alligator at a resort in Disney World, Florida. “If you have deer, there is a good chance you’ll find mountain lions”.
According to the Colorado Parks & Wildlife, mountain lion are also called pumas, cougars and panthers.
Officials said the attack could have been much worse had the mountain lion been bigger and had the mom not rushed to save her son.
There have been three fatal mountain lion attacks and 18 people injured since 1990. A young lion attacked a man as he fished north of Dotsero, about 60 miles from where Friday’s attack occurred. The man suffered scratches and bites on his back and was treated at a local clinic and released.
