Wieters keys 19-hit attack as Orioles beat Blue Jays 11

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman throws to the Toronto Blue Jays in the first inning of a baseball game in Baltimore, Sunday, June 19, 2016.
Chris Tillman allowed four earned runs over five innings but the Orioles beat the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Toronto answered back with four unanswered runs before Baltimore got things going again.
The void in the lineup didn’t affect the O’s bats however as Baltimore crushed Jays ace Marcus Stroman for seven runs on 10 hits over just 3 2/3 innings of work in the 11-6 win.
Saunders robs Hardy: As if the Orioles hadn’t seen enough of Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders, who hit three homers in Friday’s series opener, he also robbed shortstop J.J. Hardy of a home run in the eighth inning.
“It’s a powerhouse team”, Blue Jays’ manager John Gibbons said. “They got the left-right balance, which is very tough”. How many hits did they have, 18, 19? Tillman walked none and gave up only five hits, but two of those five hits were home runs. Machado served the first of a four-game suspension for charging the mound on and punching Kansas City Royals’ pitcher Yordano Ventura after he was struck in the back with a 99 miles per hour fastball on June 7. It snapped Machado’s major-league-leading active consecutive games streak at 229…. Ryan Flaherty and Adam Jones hit consecutive two-out RBI doubles that ended Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman’s day.
“Made some pitches when I needed to and the boys picked me up, picked me up big time today”, Tillman said. “We came out of here with the win, a big series win”.
The Orioles will play a make-up game against the Texas Rangers on Monday with Kevin Gausman (0-4 4.14 ERA) as he continues to search for his first win of the season. “Every team is really good, and this series was big for us”. Schoop’s RBI single in the fourth gave the Orioles a 5-4 lead. He allowed just one hit outside of the second when Troy Tulowitzki and Devon Travis each hit two-run home runs to give the Blue Jays a temporary 4-3 lead. The right-hander is 2-3 with a 7.59 ERA over his last seven starts.
“They have no guys in the lineup that you can take a hitter off”, Stroman said about the Orioles’ lineup. “And if you’re not, they’re going to expose you and take advantage of you, like they did today”.
Wieters’ RBI single and Schoop’s two-run homer, his 12th, in the seventh, put the Orioles ahead 11-6.
“When you get these two offenses together, you know you’re going to need to score with each other”.
Wieters’ third hit of the day, an RBI single, gave the Orioles an 8-4 lead in the fifth.
Odrisamer Despaigne, who is a candidate to start on Wednesday against San Diego, followed Tillman and gave up two runs, one of them unearned, as Toronto closed to within 8-6 in the seventh.
Ryan Flaherty hit an RBI single in the second inning to tie things up at 4-4.

Home plate umpire Dale Scott had to leave the game in the bottom half of the inning after he was hit in the groin with a foul ball by Flaherty.
