United Nations headquarters lit up ahead of International Yoga Day
He added that for the first time more than 135 countries are going to represent it at International Yoga Day on June 21. Union minister Jitendra Singh, who also holds the youth affairs and sports portfolio, has said more than 1 lakh yoga programmes will be organised on the occasion of “International Yoga Day”.

Similarly, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae remarked that Yoga was the common heritage of Nepal and India and its regular practice would improve not only physical health but also mental & spiritual well-being. “Synchronised asanas and mudras by the participants at the foot of the iconic Eiffel Tower was a visual delight”, read a statement issued by the Embassy of India in Paris.
The second International Yoga Day celebration was hosted at the iconic Wuxi Hollywood Studios and almost 3,500 yoga lovers from Wuxi registered and participated in the Yoga celebrations, said an official statement. Here’s what they look like in numbers.
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 11 in 2014 after a call from the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27.

Several other nations across the globe also celebrated International Yoga Day. Preparations have been on a full swing across the country and overseas for the Day that will be observed world wide on June 21.
Interative sessions on Yoga and meditations were conducted which were attended by many people including Gai Brodtmann MP, Federal Member for Canberra, senior government officials, diplomats, professionals, students, yoga enthusiasts from various schools as well as members of the Indian community in Canberra.
