Huawei’s MateBook 2-in-1 Arrives July 11

As reported by Liliputing, the Huawei MateBook will be unveiled in North America this week and will go on sale in the coming weeks, with pricing to start at $699 for the entry-level model that features an Intel Core M3 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of storage.

In our MWC hands-on, we found the incredibly light and thin Huawei MateBook to be a device worth paying attention to, continuing the company’s design reputation from the Huawei Watch and Nexus 6P and P9 smartphones.

Huawei MateBook is available for pre-order starting today.

Microsoft managed to reduce the performance gap between Surface Pro 4 and notebooks through its impressive specifications but there are always competitors around that will provide their own products with the same specifications, but with a cheaper price. A fully-loaded model ups the ante with a Core m5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD – this will set you back $1,199. In comes Huawei Matebook, the latest 2-in-1 carrying a starting price of $699 and will be arriving in the United States to take on Surface Pro 4, Microsoft’s current flagship Windows 10 powered tablet.

The MateBook does only have one USB-C port – and since that port is also used for charging, that setup could be too limiting for power users.

Moreover, while the official specs page lists that the MateBook will run either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro, Techcrunch reports that the hybrid tablet will run a Signature Edition of Windows 10 which means that it will be bloat-free, just like the Signature Edition PCs that Microsoft is selling in its stores.

There are also a number of accessories available for the device as well, such as the MateBook Keyboard for $169 CAD, Huawei MatePen for $79 CAD, and the Huawei MateDock for $109.

Disappointingly, Huawei Matebook has not included its keyboard accessory as part of the package, and you will have to purchase a Huawei Mate Pen separately as well.

Huawei MateDock expands the MateBook’s capabilities with two USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet, an HDMI, and a VGA port.
