Bihar toppers scam: Pistol, cartridges seized from Bachha Rai’s college office

“Their arrest by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was made following a tip-off about their presence in the temple city, ” said the SSP, who heads the SIT.

The SIT probing on Sunday recovered a pistol and five live rounds during search operation from the office of Baccha Rai, principal of VR College.

He was arrested on June 11 after he surrendered to the police.

He is alleged to have been manipulating, in collusion with the BSEB, the merit list of Class 12 examinees in favour of students who paid him bribes. “We will now again seek his custody”, Maharaj said.

According to police, Singh and his wife Usha Sinha who is former Janata Dal-United (JDU) legislator of Bihar, were on the run after his name figured in the Class 12 toppers’ scam.

Bihar state Congress President and Bihar’s Education Minister Ashok Choudhary said the accused will face justice.

Singh a key accused in the Intermediate toppers’ scam case in Bihar, had gone into hiding.

He also said that further details about the case will be provided later on. The scandal surfaced following a video featuring the toppers went viral in which Ruby and Saurabh were seen giving ridiculous answers to questions on their subjects.

The investigating team said Bachcha Rai had confessed that he was in regular touch with Lalkeshwar Singh and his wife Usha Sinha for managing the results of the students.

He is the secretary-cum-principal of Bishun Rai College in Vaishali district.
