Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown told The Independent Mail he thinks the boys may have slipped through an opening in the fencing.

Caleb Marcengill died Saturday afternoon shortly after he fell into the water.

McCown said another, older, child was given the key to the gates around the pool and discovered the boys.

McCown, who leads investigations into child deaths, said it was a bad accident and one in a line of several recent tragedies nationwide with children dying.

Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the residence about 2:20 p.m. after the twins’ older sister found them underwater. Caleb, the first of the twin, was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m. on Saturday. “You protect your kids as best as you can”.

Twin toddlers have died after a drowning incident in a SC pool. The twins were so small, it is likely they either crawled under or climbed over the fence.

“There’s a pretty good gap on one side of the fence and pretty much an adult could’ve crawled under it”, he said. The boys previously used swim aids when in water, McCown said.

The page says: ‘The family rejoices at the gift of the lives of these two boys for their three short years and at the thought of them skipping together down streets of gold in Heaven, even as they break at the loss of them.
