He once again championed how the New York Police Department ran a secret surveillance program in the wake of September 11 to monitor mosques and Muslim communities in the New York and New Jersey area – a program that led to a civil rights lawsuit and was later shut down by Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat.

Trump’s statements are consistent with his other, long-expressed views on how to stop terrorism in the United States, including a temporary ban on foreign Muslims from entering the country until the USA can figure out “what is going on”.
