Watch The Rare Summer Solstice Event
It is a full moon like any other, but marks the beginning of the strawberry season. In Europe, where strawberries aren’t native, it’s been known as the Full Rose Moon and the Honey Moon. This particular full moon, which also coincided closely with gurupurnima, had no scientific significance; it was just another full moon. And it’s not expected to happen again until June 21, 2062.

Despite high temperatures and a bright sun reaching as far back as February in Mansfield, Monday marks the first official day of summer in the northern hemisphere.
“The Earth has arrived at a point around the sun that we receive the most sunlight”, said Derrick Pitts, chief astronomer at The Franklin Institute science museum in Philadelphia. The full moon will be visible throughout Monday night in Mansfield and the event will be broadcast live from the Canary Islands all day, courtesy of The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
FARGO-It’s billed as a once-in-a-generation astrological moment-the marriage of a full moon and the summer solstice-something that hasn’t happened since 1967 and won’t return for almost 50 years after appearing in the night sky Monday, June 20.
Specifically, the summer solstice is the moment when the sun is directly above the Tropic of Cancer.
Thousands of people are set to flock to Stonehenge today to witness the sun rising over the stones for the summer solstice.
The solstice is celebrated by a variety of cultures worldwide. The etymology relates to the start of strawberry season rather than some physical characteristic of the moon itself.

Designed by doodler Nate Swineheart, the animated image leads to a search for “summer solstice and strawberry moon” and includes a family of anthropomorphized rock with a strawberry-hunting squirrel all beneath the full moon.
