Nationals scratch Stephen Strasburg with upper back strain

Kershaw yielded six hits over seven dominant innings to earn his ninth victory in 10 starts, and the Dodgers beat the Washington Nationals 4-1 Monday night for their fourth straight victory.

Instead, Yusmeiro Petit got the start for the Nationals.

He’s 1-3 with a 3.76 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 23 games for the Mud Hens. Stephen Strasburg was projected to start for the Washington Nationals, pitting his flawless 10-0 record against the Los Angeles Dodgers and three-time Cy Young Award victor Clayton Kershaw who was 10-1 on the season.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Justin Turner, right, is congratulated by teammate Adrian Gonzalez after hitting a solo home run during the first inning of a baseball game against the Washington Nationals, Monday, June 20, 2016, in Los Angeles.

“Kershaw’s a nasty man”. If Kershaw can keep up his pace of striking out over 10 and walking less than 1 per 9 innings, he would be the first pitcher ever to reach those marks…. ever. The 36-year-old righty was the oldest pitcher to throw at least seven ideal innings since 40-year-old Randy Johnson completed a flawless game for Arizona 12 years ago. “This is a great place to hit when the weather heats up. The ball flies out of here pretty good, so that obviously helped”.

“I felt pretty good in the playoffs previous year, but I wasn’t hitting home runs”, Turner mentioned when asked when the last time he was so hot at the plate. The Dodgers are 14-1 when Kershaw starts, and he now has 141 strikeouts and seven walks this season.

After oddly tossing exactly 82.1 innings in three straight seasons from 2002 to 2004, Gagne was never again the same pitcher, struggling with injuries and ineffectiveness while bouncing around from team to team.

Dodgers: OF Yasiel Puig will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, manager Dave Roberts said.

More info on the upper back strain when it’s available, though it probably won’t be until after tonight’s game when Nats’ skipper Dusty Baker talks to reporters. Roark has pitched twice in relief against the Dodgers, but this will be his first time starting against them.
