Mission ImpossibleRogue Nation” was written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Vacation made $14 million this weekend after collecting a paltry $6 million from the previous two days. Furthermore, it’s added $65 million outside of the US too, giving Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation a running total of $121 million after one weekend.

His fifth film in the series, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation“, opened in first place, earning an estimated million. Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures, reiterated in an interview that a sixth “Mission” film is moving forward.

The executive noted that Cruise’s willingness to participate in the stunts – such as hanging onto the door of an Airbus A400 on takeoff – gave Rogue Nation an authenticity that resonated with audiences.

Holdovers “Ant-Man“, “Minions“, and “Pixels”, rounded out the top five. Such as “Insurgent” $52 million, “Taken 3″ $39 million, and “Terminator: Genisys” $27 million. “We’ll probably start shooting it next summer”, he told Jon Stewart during a stop at “The Daily Show” last Tuesday. The weekend’s other major new release, a reboot of the Chevy Chase comedy “Vacation“, didn’t perform as well.

In its fourth weekend in theaters, “Minions“, from Comcast’s Corp.’s CMCSA, +0.85% Universal Studios, grabbed the No. 4 spot with $12.2 million at the box office.

In seventh was “Southpaw“, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a boxer at the end of his bruising career, which brought in US$7.5 million.

Despite the unexpected boost, overall the weekend was down 22 percent from the same time frame last year when “Guardians of the Galaxy” burst onto the market with $94 million.

“Assassination” dropped down a place to second over the weekend due to the strength of the Hollywood blockbuster, but remains a box office sensation with an accumulated audience of more than 6 million.
