Ex-NFL player arrested after standoff in Phoenix-area home

Bess, 30, reportedly left the traffic stop in Gilbert, Ariz., around midnight and then barricaded himself in a auto.

Officers followed Bess to his home in Gilbert where he refused to come out, police said.

According to The Arizona Republic, Bess fled from police who attempted to pull him over during a traffic stop in Gilbert shortly after midnight on Monday and drove to a neighborhood where he lives before barricading himself inside of his auto. He was then identified driving his in neighborhood, with police again trying to stop him.

After a brief standoff, SWAT team officers entered the home and took Bess into custody.

The 30-year-old was released as the Cleveland Browns wide receiver in 2014 after less than a year. After that arrest, Bess reportedly checked himself in to a Florida medical facility for treatment.

His latest arrest is registered as fleeing an officer, flight, and endangerment, all three are felony charges.

The Dolphins traded Bess to the Browns a month after his hospitalization, with various reports about whether or not the Browns were aware of the incident prior to the trade.
