Charles Matthews’ Kentucky Wildcats career now appears to be officially over.

Now heading to MI, the 6-foot-6 guard will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2016-17 season, per NCAA transfer rules.

“Matthews, a 6’4”, 190-pound shooting guard, played an average of 10.3 minutes in 36 games last season for the Wildcats, tallying 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Coming out of St. Rita High School in Chicago, Matthews was ranked as the No. 59 overall prospect in the class of 2015 in the 247 Sports Composite.

“I gained great experience during my freshman year at Kentucky”, he said in a statement. He was the first recruit for the Wildcats in the class of 2015 and chose them over the likes of Kansas, Marquette and U-M’s conference rivals IL and Michigan State. He would likely help replace players like rising senior Zak Irvin and rising junior Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rakhman, who could go the National Basketball Association after this upcoming season.
