She didn’t back down.

A Pitkin County deputy called called the mother a hero for charging the animal during Friday’s attack, yanking away one of its paws and prying open its jaws.
Porras also said Colorado Parks and Wildlife believes the mother is likely dead, and the agency is not trying to locate her. The boy was in his yard playing with an older brother when the attack took place, Fox News reported.
After she pried open the lion’s mouth with her hands, she scooped up her son and ran away, the deputy said.
“The boy was completely under the cat”, Buglione said. She then discovered then that whole head of her son was in the animal’s mouth.
“If they do become comfortable, then they’ll want to live where you live”, she said. The boy’s father had just returned from a run when the attack occurred. In the family’s scramble to get the boy and his mother to help, they sped straight to the hospital and passed officers Bulgione and his partner. From there, the child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver in fair condition.
The mother was briefly hospitalized before being released. His mother was treated for injuries to her hands and legs and released.
The mountain lion was estimated to be about 2 years old and was not fully grown.
Buglione added, “It wasn’t a big cat. Had it been a 110-pound lion, which I’ve seen around here, this would have been a much different story”, Buglione said.

After the attack, the young lion was killed and another found in the area several hours later was also shot, wildlife officials said.

The last known lion attack on a human in Colorado was in July 2015 when a young lion attacked a fisherman along Coffee Pot Road, north of Dotsero. The man suffered scratches and bites on his back and was treated at a local clinic and released. They were able to find the mountain lion in the front yard of the family and the animal was killed.
