Annual Relay for Life for Cancer

Money raised during Relay For Life helps fund the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer by helping people get well, helping them stay well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.

The Relay for Life celebration also featured a “Mrs. Relay” event, where men walked around the track wearing dresses and high heels to raise awareness for breast cancer.

“He was fantastic”, she said. They hope to raise $72,000 to go toward cancer research.

Teams consisted of students, teachers and staff, as well as cancer survivors. As in past years, the traditional survivor lap led off the event. “If you’re a cancer survivor, you will always need that support”.

Today, June 13, Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger will proclaim the week of June 13 to June 17 Relay for Life Week in Greater Sudbury.

“During the barbecue were going to have face painting, a bouncy castle, clowns, balloon animals and kids activities as well, ” she said, noting money raised from the barbecue will go to the Relay For Life.

The Relay for Life of the Sauquoit Valley is an event that is embraced by the community.

“You just have to keep keeping on”, Riblett said. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all.

“You don’t have to be part of a team but can register online prior to Friday or register right at the event that night”, Pavlik said. Relay for Life Chair Tess Gruber Nelson says fundraising efforts will continue through August. All survivors receive a free Relay For Life T-shirt and a special gift.
