Anton Yelchin has died at the age of 27

Select 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees – manufactured between July 16, 2012, and December 22, 2015 – were recalled in April by manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for a transmission issue that made it possible for the vehicle to roll away after being parked.

Bloomberg also quoted Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne who said during a conference call a recall of the vehicles would involve a software update that would automatically shift a auto in neutral to park.

Clarence Ditlow, executive director of the Center for Auto Safety, said Monday that “while waiting for a recall remedy to be developed, the predictable happened”. “It is premature to speculate on its cause at this time”, he added.

Insiders close to the case reveal the 27-year-old suffered severe head and chest injuries following the accident. “I am driving children around in a defective vehicle that is killing people”.

Fiat Chrysler said some drivers might have been confused by the electronic gearshift system, which moves more like a joystick than along a gate path like conventional gear selectors. Reports say drivers have had trouble discerning whether they’d left their auto in park or neutral, resulting in cars rolling after unsuspecting drivers had exited the vehicle. NHTSA urged the recall, which involved the gear shifters.

The cast of Star Trek Beyond were slated to appear at Cannes tomorrow for a Q&A session about their work on the upcoming movie, but in the wake of the tragic accident that cost Anton Yelchin his life, Paramount has pulled them from the event.

Zachary Quinto penned a touching tribute to his “Star Trek” co-star, describing him as “enormously talented and generous of heart”. It should be noted that the problem under recall isn’t an equipment malfunction, but instead a design that NHTSA has deemed “not intuitive” and one that provides “poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver”.

“And you weren’t here almost long enough”. “You were kind”, Abrams wrote on Twitter. “They were very sweet”.
