The inauguration of the new Suez Canal is evidence that the stability has returned and that an environment exists in which things can be done, businesses can grow, banks can lend, and people can hope, Forbes Magazine reported.

Egypt is set to open the new Suez Canal on August 6, only one year after construction began on the project.

Rather than a bottleneck, analysts say those statistics reflect slower global trade growth, which the worldwide Monetary Fund expects to average 3.4 percent in the period 2007-2016, compared with 7 percent over the previous decade.

“I don’t understand the logic of this Suez Canal expansion”, said Robin Mills, head of consulting at Manaar Energy in Dubai.

“The impression we’re taking away is this is a huge undertaking and it has been completed in a time which is frankly astonishing”, said Peter Hinchliffe, secretary general of ICS and worldwide Shipping Federation (ISF), on a visit to the canal on 30 July.

Security consideration permitting the strains of Verdi’s Aida will sound over Thursday’s official opening of the new two-way Suez Canal.

A police crackdown targeting Morsi supporters has killed hundreds and seen thousands jailed.

That means shorter sailing times do not immediately trickle down in the form of higher revenue and profit – though increased business is possible if more customers ship their products through the canal because speedier transport means a lower shipping cost. “Egypt’s Gift to The World”, the stamp reads in part.
