Early reports said that 16 children, between the ages of seven and 13, were on their way to the Don Bosco School in Kundapur in an Omni van when a private bus rammed into it.
Eight school children have been killed and five others seriously injured in a road accident in Kundapur in Udupi district on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Don Bosco School has clarified that it was not a van run by the school. The condition of two students is said to be critical.
An official from Kasturba hospital Manipal confirmed that they received 15 patients, including the driver, of whom eight died. Bus passengers Avitha, Sangeetha Kharvi and Supreetha sustained minor injuries. A few students were receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kundapur.
