Roy Hodgson delighted after England’s comeback win over Wales

A long-range Gareth Bale free-kick gave the Welsh the lead at a raucous Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens on Thursday but England came back in the second half to equalise through substitute Jamie Vardy before Daniel Sturridge netted a dramatic last-gasp victor.

“We’ve defended amazingly but, if we can get the ball down and play more, hopefully I can influence it a bit more”. I think it’s going to be a feature of the tournament. “We’d conceded against the run of play, which was disappointing, but we showed great character and belief in ourselves and trust in our team-mates”.

England’s other substitute on Thursday, Marcus Rashford, was again very impressive when he came on for what was his competitive debut but starting with him as well might be too bold.

He says they will be focused on getting what they need against a Russian Federation side who have only one point from two games after drawing with England and losing to Slovakia.

“Since he’s got back from that injury situation, he did have a very settled period of play when he played on a regular basis and he just picked up that injury in the Europa League final”.

Gareth Bale has scored two goals in two games, and he’s ready for more.

“Maybe we haven’t done that as much and that’s an area we need to improve”. If we had drawn, we would have had to beat Slovakia and they look a decent side and it would have been a real pressure game.

“We know as a group we are not just 11 men”, Rooney said. We have four points now and we should qualify.

The positive thing for Wales as they prepare for their final group game is that they remain the masters of their own destiny. But we did everything we could to keep them at bay and even when they got the equaliser, they had possession but I think Wayne pulled off one save.

Carters bar and nightclub, situated at the Skydome, in Coventry, aired the match live – and you can see what the game meant to city football fans by watching the footage above.

“I’m disappointed how we lost this but, going into the last game with it in our hands – you have to take that”.

‘If you get a chance and miss it, that is what will be highlighted by pundits like me.

“It is okay, I felt my calf tightening up a bit during half-time and once I got a bang on it, it stiffened up a bit”, he said.

“Nothing changes. It was the last few seconds that cost us against England, no one likes having that happen with barely any time left on the clock”.
