The greatest threats are damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain and tornadoes. We do not anticipate widespread damaging winds, nor strong/long-lived tornadoes.

Even though we need the rain, some of the storms could dump over an inch of water in a very short period of time. Most of the area is still under a slight risk (15%) for severe weather Wednesday night – Thursday AM & PM. Closer to sunset, we’ll start watching storms develop to our west, which will move into our area mainly after midnight. These meteorologists are responsible for issuing severe weather outlooks and watches.
Forecasters are encouraging everyone to stay abreast of weather conditions Wednesday and seek shelter immediately if severe weather approaches. The Storm Prediction Center has all of the area under a moderate risk of seeing severe weather which doesn’t happen often.
It will be sunny to partly cloudy today, with temperatures in the mid 80s and winds from the northwest blowing in at 10 to 20 miles per hour.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for western North Dakota until 11 p.m. Thunderstorms could move into central North Dakota after 9 tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck. Thunderstorms are likely to develop ahead of the front later tonight and into Wednesday morning, fueled by surging humidity, the warm front and a late night jet stream.
