NBA Trade: New York Knicks acquire Derrick Rose from Chicago Bulls

New York Knicks have been longing for a move that would genuinely alter the trajectory of the organization.

NY traded Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant in return for Rose, Justin Holiday and 2017 second-round pick.

He is headed to NY after the Chicago Bulls dealt him to the Knicks on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) in exchange for Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant.

Rose is coming off his best year in some time, as the guard has battled multiple knee injuries since being named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in 2011. Last season, at 27, he didn’t suffer any major health setback and appeared in 66 games where he averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 assists while shooting 42.7 percent from the field.

Rose left the University of Memphis after his freshman year in 2008 and led the Bulls to the NBA Playoffs in his first season, and to the post-season five out of his seven seasons overall. Making just 29 appearances in total, Noah averaged 4.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and one block over the course of 21.9 minutes per game. If he plays well, he could be in for a big pay day at the “World’s Most Famous Arena”.

According to the Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, the trade was a “hard one” to make.

Hill, 30, averaged 12.1 points and 3.4 assists in 74 regular-season games for the Pacers last season, and is expected to be the starter when the new National Basketball Association season open.

Once you get past the champion Cleveland Cavaliers, the Eastern Conference is wide open, and on paper this move gives the Knicks, who finished well outside of playoff shouting distance a year ago, a pretty intriguing and talented trio.

And he could be worth the risk for a Knicks team that has struggled to generate offense. Calderon, who’s entering the final year of a deal that’s due to pay him $7,708,427, will be 35 years old before the 2016-17 season begins, and neither Grant nor Dinwiddie have shown enough to be considered a franchise point guard moving forward.

If Rose can stay healthy, he would fit well next to Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, giving the Knicks more weapons in the triangle or pick-and-roll that Hornacek is expected to play.

Hill went to the Jazz as Atlanta traded former All-Star guard Jeff Teague to IN, with the Jazz giving the No.12 pick IN Thursday’s NBA Draft to Atlanta. But after the first ACL tear, Rose was never the same. Neither Rose nor Butler were adept at hitting three-pointers or playing well off the ball, and they often took turns running isolation plays. That said, one wonders if the Knicks would be doubling down on two has-beens, considering Rose’s injury history and Noah’s declining production the past couple of years.
