According to the official website of the UFC, Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem for the heavyweight championship is the main event of UFC 203. After debuting in the UFC in February, he beat out Mike Jackson in first round – and he had announced beforehand to UFC President Dana White that if he had won, he wanted CM Punk.

Punk will battle Mickey Gall in UFC 203 in Cleveland, the fighting organization announced. I’m happy to have a date and there finally look like there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Originally, sources stated that Punk’s first UFC fight would occur at UFC 202 on Saturday, August 20, the same weekend as WWE Summerslam 2016.

Punk, 37, birth name Phil Brooks, signed with the UFC in December 2014 and had his debut postponed because of a shoulder injury. Following the surgery he began training right away at Roufusport in Milwaukee.

“I think there is a lot of suspect people out there with their opinions, thinking that they are going to throw a can at me or whatever, and they really haven’t”, said Punk when asked what he thought of his opponent.

“You shouldn’t talk a bunch of s*** if you haven’t stepped in there so I haven’t”.

Punk transitioned from pro-wrestling to MMA in late 2014. Gall trains with the Miller brothers in New Jersey and has five fights under his belt, whereas Punk has no MMA or competitive combat sports experience.

However, Punk told podcast hosts Jim Norton and Matt Serra that he recently returned to training. He’s fought before and I haven’t.

“That’s the whole reason I did this is to challenge myself”, Punk said.
