Matthew McConaughey Wants to Return to ‘True Detective’
Luckily my wife put up with me … I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights.

McConaughey won rave reviews for his against-type performance as Cohle in the first season of the HBO series. “It would have to be the right context, the right way”, he told Eisen.
Few can forget the complex and eccentric character of Rustin Cohle/Rust from HBO’s critically-acclaimed season 1 of “True Detective”.
While last month’s reports suggested True Detective had met its end, McConaughey allegedly discussed a potential role in Season 3, should it ever come about.
“Yeah, I would. I miss Rust Cohle, man”. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. “I have spoken to Nic [Pizzolatto the showrunner] about it”, McConaughey revealed.
‘That thing – when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes if I can play this guy, Rustin Cohle, I’m in, ‘ he added. And that means Matthew McConaughey will never stop being asked about True Detective.
“People were always asking me how I felt about going from the big screen to the small screen”.
McConaughey is now promoting his new Civil War drama Free State of Jones, which lands in theaters on Friday, but he’d be more than happy to return to television for a show like True Detective.

McConaughey also spoke about how the transition from film to television isn’t the perceived downgrade it used to be, saying, ‘That used to be a little more of a taboo kind of idea to do. Critics and fans alike bashed the second season for a complicated storyline revolving around a mobster played by Vince Vaughn, along with detectives played by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch. HBO President Michael Lombardo said he rushed the scribe to finish the second season, and the show and Pizzolatto faltered.
