The violence across the country coincides with the transfer of all security operations to poorly equipped Afghan forces from U.S.-led worldwide troops.

The blast hit the market in Almar, a district of Faryab province situated near the border with Turkmenistan, around 11:30 a.m. local time Wednesday, Yaqoobi said. “UNAMA has repeatedly called for an immediate ban on weapons which kill indiscriminately and that are used in civilian-populated areas”, said Nicholas Haysom, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), according to Big News Network.

The attack took place in the morning at a market in Almar district, Xinhua reported quoting provincial police spokesman Sayyed Massoud Yaqobi. Afghanistan has experienced a decade of radical Taliban insurgency, predominantly in its northern regions. Also 38 others had been wounded in this attack. An official said an army solider and two police officers were among the casualties, and all the rest were civilians.

Barez also said he feared the final death toll may be higher as many among the wounded were in critical condition.
