“In the beginning, there was nothing, an infinite void”.
An animated opening sequence with a Stephen Hawking-esque computerised voice gives little away about the movie.
Expectations will be higher this time around, and it remains to be seen whether the first movie’s cult appeal will translate to sequel success after all these years. The voice then gets in to an argument with Derek about the title of the Zoolander sequel because doesn’t understand replacing the “Z” with a the number 2 or using roman numerals. The two-minute teaser begins with the beginning – the Big Bang and the creation of the universe.
The original “Zoolander” film originated from a pair of short films directed by Russell Bates and written by Drake Sather and Stiller for the VH1 Fashion Awards television specials in 1996 and 1997. “But even more incredible, the human brain”, the narration started.
Derek Zoolander is back in Zoolander 2. The movie will apparently be full of other celebrities as well including, of all people, Justin Bieber. The film will feature Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Christine Taylor, Penelope Cruz, Cyprus Arnold and Kristen Wiig. Ben Stiller – the man behind the absent-minded, Blue Steel-rocking titular character himself – returns not only to lead the movie but to fill the director’s chair as well. It’s however been revealed that the sequel will take place in present day, and years from the original. Basically, within less than two minutes, Ben Stiller was able to prove one very important point: Derek Zoolander has not changed very much in 14 years.

There was already a preview of their face-off when Stiller and Wilson reprised their roles for a brief appearance at the Valentino catwalk during the Paris Fashion Week.
