Braves lose Freddie Freeman to another injury

Freddie Freeman was placed on the 15 day Disabled List on Tuesday afternoon by the Atlanta Braves after suffering a right oblique strain in the 5th inning of Monday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants. Freeman was recently activated from the Disabled List after missing over a month due to an injured wrist.

Freeman struggled at the plate after his return with a. 184 average but was hitting. Freeman is slashing.284/.348/.500 with 14 home runs (after hitting 18 all last season) and 45 RBI.

The Atlanta Braves, now smack dab in the middle of of what they hope to be a quick rebuild, have lost their best player for the next two weeks. Freeman left Monday’s game in the fifth inning when he appeared to injury his oblique in the bottom of the fifth inning when he took an awkward swing.

The bad news didn’t stop with Freeman, as the Braves put right-handed relief pitcher Jason Frasor on the 15-day DL with a strained right shoulder.

In corresponding moves, the Braves recalled first baseman Joey Terdoslavich and rookie right-hander Ryan Kelly from Triple-A Gwinnett. In 19 games, Terdoslavich has slashed.147/.171/.265 with one home run in 34 at-bats.

The Braves have are still in the process of retooling this roster for the future which limits their roster depth with major league talent.

Freeman missed 30 games earlier this season with a wrist injury and the Braves went 13-17.

The Atlanta Braves offense will once again be without its top producer.
