Flathead County Has New HIV Cases

As July 1 of every year has been designated the National Voluntary Counseling and Testing Day, Dr Amnuay Kajeena, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, disclosed that the department is cooperating with related agencies and networks to hold a campaign throughout this July to encourage HIV testing among people, especially those with risky behaviors. Forrest County is second in the state in the rate on new HIV infections.

Positive Resource Connection, formerly known as the AIDS Task Force, and the IPFW Lafayette Family Health Clinic is marking National HIV Testing Day with special free testing events.

Awarding community-based organizations more than $55 million over five years to provide HIV testing and linkage to care for young gay and bisexual men of color, transgender youth of color, and their partners.

Next week, Deschutes County Health Services will offer free HIV testing in Bend and Redmond. With improved technologies (e.g., rapid combination tests), people can know their status sooner after becoming infected than ever before. Expanding access to testing services is critical for reducing HIV.

“The sooner you know your status, the sooner you can get treatment, significantly reducing the possibility of spreading the virus to others”, Moore said. CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime.
