Pakistan’s foreign office said Pakistan was invited to start the process of becoming a full SCO member at the heads of state council (HSC) meeting held in Ufa, Russia, in July 2015.

Earlier, Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain met Xi on the sidelines of the summit and thanked China for supporting Pakistan’s case for NSG membership.
The Prime Minister will also have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday on the sidelines of the summit during which he is expected to seek China’s support for India’s bid for NSG membership, which Beijing is opposed to.
“With regard to India’s entry into the NSG, I would like to correct that the word China blocking India’s membership is not proper”, she said.
Preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) were discussed in Tashkent, said the message from Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry.
Prior to his departure from New Delhi to Tashkent, PM Modi said India looks forward to fruitful outcome from its engagement at the SCO summit.
India’s entry into SCO as a full member will provide it an opportunity to have extended cooperation with member countries in areas of defence, security and counter-terrorism.
Membership of the SCO will give a fillip to India’s energy cooperation with the Central Asian members.
“At the summit in Tashkent the process of India’s accession to SCO will begin with the signing of a commitment memorandum”, she said.
The organization brings together Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The SCO Summit will take place at the same time as the NSG annual meet in Korea. Afghanistan, Iran and Mongolia are observers at the SCO.
