The unidentified officer, 25, was responding to a report of drug activity in the borough of Folcroft when he was ambushed and shot three times, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia reported.

The search had halted train traffic on tracks about a block from the shooting.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not now known. Sources say Dorman was hit in the face, torso, and lower extremities. The Officer Dorman has been on the force for just over a year.

He says the officer’s bulletproof vest may have saved his life. “Outstanding.” Ruskowski said Dorman’s mother and father are at the hospital, “obviously upset but relieved that he’s stable”.

Folcroft Chief Robert Ruskowski says Dorman was conscious when he was admitted to the hospital and is preparing to undergo a second surgery.

According to Amtrak’s Media Relations department, the Amtrak Acela Express and Northeast Regional service is now suspended between Wilmington, Delaware and Philadelphia.
