How the Bulls can Benefit from the Derrick Rose Trade

For now, Rose wanting to be in NY is a good thing for the Knicks.

NY is expected to acquire Rose, fellow guard Justin Holiday and a second-round pick of the 2017 draft from Chicago for center Robin Lopez and guards Jerian Grant and Jose Calderon, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Chicago is expected to include wing player Justin Holliday as well as a 2017 second-round pick. According to a report by the Chicago Tribune, General Manager Gar Foreman believes it was high time for them to scour the league for younger talents, also considering Rose’s recent injury-plagued seasons. He’s entering the final season of one of the lowest-yield contracts in professional sports history.

Derrick Rose has been one of the most sought National Basketball Association player in the league, at least, that statement is true before his injury plagued career made a turning point in 2014. This past season, he averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.

The point guard position has been a major weakness for the Knicks over the years.

Both Calderon and Grant started for the Knicks last season. If the Knicks succeed in acquiring him, there is a great possibility that they will be on the list of teams who can be a title contender next season, provided that Noah and Rose are healthy all the way.

The last player to wear No. 25 for the Knicks was Anthony Carter in 2011. The Bulls arguably suffered for planning to depend on Rose as much as they did over the past few seasons, but the decision to move him is an emotional one nonetheless.

Yet after an up-and-down season at LSU, Simmons arrived in NY on Wednesday with more scrutiny than usual for a player whose named is expected to be called first by commissioner Adam Silver. If the point guard resembles anything close to his old self, he’ll be inked to a new deal. Perhaps Hornacek hopes he can do what fellow Iowa State alumnus Fred Hoiberg, who just completed his first year as the Bulls’ coach, couldn’t: Turn Rose into a playmaker as he deals with his new athletic limitations. In the new year, he averaged 17.7 points and 4.4 assists a game while getting his shooting percentage back up to 45.3 percent.

After being drafted by the Bulls as the first overall pick in the 2008 draft, Rose’s career in Chicago has been shaky at best.

It’s a strategy Jackson needs to take with two years left on his deal in NY, but the competition for Durant will be so intense that it’s going to take a legendary sales pitch to make it happen.
