Obama makes most vehement denunciation of Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric

Trump also rattled off attacks on Hillary Clinton, the presumed Democratic nominee, who delivered similarly scathing attacks on Trump’s response to the shooting earlier in the day – accusing Clinton of accepting money from countries that treat women and gays “horrendously”.

Donald Trump, ignoring the fact that the shooter, Omar Mateen, was an American citizen who was born in NY, said: “We can not continue to allow thousands upon thousands of people to pour into our country, many of whom have the same thought process as this savage killer”.

Donald Trump reiterated his call for a “temporary ban” on Muslim migrants to the United States from “horrible” places with “tremendous terrorism” during a campaign rally in Atlanta, Georgia Wednesday.

“What exactly would using this language accomplish?” In that speech, Clinton called Trump’s rhetoric “shameful” and slammed her rival for calling for a ban on Muslims entering the country.

Clinton tore into Trump’s history as a leader of the birther movement, which alleged Obama was not born in America – which he was.

Trump responded by suggesting that Obama is too solicitous of enemies.

“He gives a speech yesterday, a long speech that at the end of it nobody knew what the hell he was talking about”, Trump said of Obama’s speech where he castigated the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. She also claimed that his obsession with the words “radical Islam” was a smokescreen for his own lack of knowledge. “Would it make ISIL less committed to try and kill Americans?” he continued. Would it bring in more allies?

He said American leaders can choose to be “weak” or “ineffective like we are right now”, or can pivot to something better.

And what they had to say about Donald Trump and his reaction to the attack in Orlando was remarkably similar.

The pushback comes after Obama made his most extensive comments yet challenging critics who have been on his case for years over avoiding the term “radical Islam”, including after Sunday’s Orlando terror massacre where the shooter professed support for the Islamic State. Both sides proclaim: Why can’t everyone be more like us?

Obama said he understood that it’s a contentious time in the political life of the nation, but he said democracy has always been messy. We’re not respected by these people.
