They hire someone to do that.

Mini’s design chief, Anders Warming, said: “It’s not just about “my car” – it’s also about sharing the vehicle so you can share these experiences with other people”. Now, it’s Rolls-Royce’s turn. Serving as the company’s benchmark in making and designing future luxury cars, the Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 concept will be able to cater to a wide variety of personalization preferences along with the latest in-car technology.

Unveiled in London on Thursday, the company’s Vision Next 100 design features details like a virtual assistant – with no actual driver. BMW owns both of the British vehicle brands.

If the current MINI is what the brand calls “the ideal premium compact auto for the modern city”, its successor should incorporate advanced digitalization, connectivity and self-driving tech into what is already a long-standing successful recipe. An advanced chassis, a zero-emissions powertrain and a bespoke design tailored to every individual customer are all part of the concept. The car’s body nearly completely conceals the wheels – nearly like the BMW Vision Next 100 Years – and it nearly appears the vehicle is floating on air!

“According to information released by Rolls-Royce (light on details, heavy on verbosity), “[The Vision Next 100] makes a bold and definitive statement of confidence in a future where Rolls-Royce rejects the notion of anonymous, utilitarian and bland future modes of mobility”. Buyers will no longer have to have to choose a Phantom, Wraith or Dawn. So, adding a dose of mystery, Rolls added, “one can only surmise how this Rolls-Royce will be powered”. The roof lifts away, while the door opens rearward just like on Rolls-Royce’s current models. None of that awkward bending over to get out.

Inside the vehicle, occupants are assisted by Eleanor, a computer-generated virtual assistant who appears in a transparent display. Her name is Eleanor. The front end continues to be reserved for the iconic Pantheon grille while the rear is shaped with a “boat-tail” taper. Like any good AI, she will learn about you over time, remembering your preferred routes, restaurants, and apparently even your taste in art.
