The search for answers in the case of a 4-year-old girl shot dead inside her North Philadelphia home Thursday afternoon seems to point to the girl somehow accidentally shooting herself, 6ABC is reporting, citing sources close to the ongoing investigation.

Police recovered the weapon involved in the shooting. The girl’s mother and 3-year-old sister were also home at the time, police have said.

An arrest warrant has been issued for her boyfriend, Demetrius Williams.

Police say the child was in a bedroom when she was shot once in her eye, and rushed to the hospital.

It happened inside a home near the intersection of West Montgomery Avenue and North 20th Street, around 12:30.

Officer Tanya Little says it is “looking like” the gunshot was self-inflicted, though autopsy results are pending.

“No child deserves to go out like that – no kinda way – not like that”, she said. She was pronounced dead at 1:01 p.m. “I seen the cops rushing down here”.

Neighbors said the mother ran outside holding her daughter and yelled for help.
