Friday many Utah State Jail inmates who’re on the hunger strike have now been consuming food they bought themselves in the jail commissary, jail authorities stated within an update. All 42 are “documented gang members”, Adams said in a prepared statement.

Medical staff tried to conduct exams Monday, but all of the strike participants refused to be weighed and all but one refused to meet with a nurse, Adams wrote.
Prison personnel will allow each of the striking inmates to be evaluated by medical staff to determine their baseline weight and other health indicators, according to Adams. Brooke Adams, Public Information Officer for the Utah Department of Corrections, stated Sunday the inmates are demanding these inmates be launched from most safety and incarcerated elsewhere. Mental health team Monday satisfied with each prisoner.
Some of these policies include inmate classification system, programming and out-of-cell time in the maximum security area.
“It is unfortunate the ACLU did not take advantage of this opportunity to advise us of these concerns and of a potential of a hunger strike, which it has apparently been aware of for some time, and seek to resolve them together”, the release states.

American Civil Liberties Union of Utah declared that they were not associated with planning and organizing this protest but they express their support towards the prisoners’ cause for this peaceful protest, according the ACLU Utah’s legal director John Mejia, reported by Fox News.
