CRPF personnel, two terrorists killed in J&K face-off

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday, strongly condemned the militant attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pampore in which eight defence personnel were killed, saying that such acts of violence were aimed at subverting the Government’s efforts to bring peace and prosperity to the state. The operation is still reportedly underway as two other militants are believed to be hiding in the area. Over two dozen more CRPF personnel were also injured.

CRPF men also retaliated the fire and killed both the attackers The bus was returning to the capital city after attending a routine firing practice in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

“However, during the gunfight, five CRPF personnel got martyred”.

The fighting has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians, dead over the past three decades. The area has been sealed. “The injured have been admitted to a hospital”, CRPF commandant Rajesh Yadav had earlier said.

According to ANI, security personnel recovered arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, 11 hand grenades from the two terrorists killed in the attack.

Nalin Prabhat, IG, CRPF said that both the terrorists killed in the attack appeared to be from Pakistan and from Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Director General of CRPF Durga Prasad will visit the scene of encounter tomorrow.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar “prayed” for the recovery of those injured in the attack.
