Disney Sets Opening Record With ‘Nemo’ Sequel ‘Finding Dory’
In China, the film handed Pixar its biggest debut, with 115.12 million Yuan ($17.5 million) in revenue, shattering the records of perennial number one title holder, Inside Out there.

Finding Dory has blown away box office records with a $136.1 million opening weekend, which is the biggest opening weekend of all time for an animated film. The 2007 film Shrek the Third was the previous animated record-holder, with a $121.6 million (£83.4m) debut. While families made up the largest chunk of the audience (65 percent), adults turned out in force (26 percent), followed by teens (9 percent).
Finding Dory is the long-awaited sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo.
“Finding Dory” is the year’s second-biggest opening after “Captain America: Civil War” which amassed $179 million – the fifth highest of all time – following its April release.
Ellen Degeneres voices Dory, a forgetful fish who’s on a mission to try and find her long lost family.
Although Dory is a fun-loving fish in the movie, her breed may not be so easy to care for in real life.
Thirteen years back, “Finding Nemo” garnered much success, ending its domestic box office run with $339 million. The Andrew Stanton-helmed film drew over $528 million internationally, with a combined total of 5.7 billion Yuan ($868 million).
“The Conjuring 2” drops from first place to third place, taking in $15.5 million over the weekend.
The fantasy “Warcraft” placed fifth over the weekend with $7.2 million. The Jungle Book has been out for 66 days and has grossed $355.7 million domestically. You just laugh when you watch them.Central Intelligence cost a reported $50 million to make and scored especially well with younger audiences, who the studio hopes will propel word-of-mouth business in weeks to come.

Final numbers are still being tallied, but it looks like revenues will be down roughly 4 per cent.
