Together we are funnier, smarter, more ambitious, braver, badass, bolder, invincible, unstoppable.

“We have heard from our Lean In Circles and from women in the workplace that to be more confident and feel stronger, they look to their female peers for support”, Sandberg says.

The trio, along with Lena Dunham, Megyn Kelly, Eva Longoria, Abby Wambach, and Serena Williams, joined Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg in a video to promote her LeanIn.Org nonprofit’s newest campaign, Together Women Can, which is geared towards women helping other women in the workplace. Often they have the experience of a man sharing the same idea later at a meeting and being told it’s genius.

“Behind every successful woman, is another successful woman”, the video reads in its opening statement.

“Our goal is to help women lean in to their ambitions – and we don’t get there alone”, Sandberg said.

“We see all the time women supporting other women”. And it’s a unusual divide.

Like Sandberg’s breakout work, which has been criticized for minimizing the barriers women in the workforce face – especially women of races, classes and sexualities that differ from its wealthy, white, cis author – the tips provided do seem to be geared towards “employable”, educated women. But I know I don’t have any choice other than to keep going.

Dunham explained that Sandberg serves as a de facto coach for her-urging her to think about how much she makes in relation to men, when she was planning to have kids, how she was managing her business, and if she needed help. “But also because I’m surrounded by the support of a lot of people, a lot of women who have really supported me”.

Personally, I can’t think of a more loving and uplifting way to combat sexism.

When we help each other, it’s a self-reinforcing positive cycle. We are more courageous when we encourage each other.
