Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and more than 60 Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) MLAs were stopped near Tughlaq Road here and later detained by the police on Sunday, as they were enroute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7 Race Course Road in protest.

According to a report in The Statesman, Manish Sisodia was on an official visit to the Ghazipur fruit and vegetable market on Saturday, where he interacted with the marketing traders.

On Saturday, Dinesh Mohaniya, AAP legislator from Sangam Vihar in southern Delhi, was arrested on charges of “sexual harassment” and sent in judicial custody. Reacting to the complaint, Sisodia said that he will surrender himself to the Prime Minsister.

Nonetheless, Sisodia was quick to give this incident a political colour and tweeted out that he is sure that Modi will use the incident to corner him and thwart the “Delhi government’s work”.

“We request Modi ji to arrest us if he wants to unleash political vendetta”.

“All the MLAs including Sisodia have been detained and taken to the Tughlaq Road police station”, Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal said. “There is an attempt by the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) to stop the AAP government from working”.

The women claimed they had gone to Mohaniya, who is also the vice-president of the Delhi Jal Board, to complain about poor water supply in Neb Sarai area but were assaulted.

Meanwhile, Sisodia said that “we went to Ghazipur vegetable market (mandi) and saw some people indulging in illegal practices and warned them if they continue to do so, we will get their license cancelled”. “No police action is made out in the matter”, he said. The party has alleged the involvement of senior BJP leaders and also pointed fingers at lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung in the shooting death of MM Khan.
