Analysis from other countries, which did not advise against pregnancy, suggested smaller increases in abortion demand.

The other 17 Latin American countries covered by the new study had their rates rise by more than a third during that time, according to the report in the New England Journal of Medicine. That’s the way the disease spread from Brazil throughout Latin America and the Caribbean over the past year.
This lack in demand from Women on Web leads the study’s researchers to believe women might be seeking out illegal abortions elsewhere, instead of receiving safe pills from the organization.

All cases reported to date in the US have been associated with travel to a Zika-affected area.

But no nation has been more affected than Brazil.

And since Zika can be spread through sex, doctors say you should use protection if your partner has traveled to an infected region.
“When travelers return home, they should follow CDC guidance to prevent sexual transmission of the virus, especially to pregnant women or women or may become pregnant”, Dr. DiOrio said.
Couples with possible Zika virus exposure who want to try to get pregnant should consult with their healthcare provider.
In a second paper, published in Nature Immunology, researchers found that the vast majority of dengue antibodies do nothing to stop Zika infection.
Although most people infected by Zika suffer only mild symptoms, in pregnancy it can cause severe birth defects, including brain damage. They are members of the same virus “family” – called flaviviridae – and both are transmitted by the Aedes mosquito.
