Davis’ slam propels Orioles past skidding Rays, 12-5

Tampa Bay Rays’ Oswaldo Arcia, right, is greeted by Tampa Bay Rays third base coach Charlie Montoyo (25) as he rounds third on his home run during the fourth inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles, Sunday, June 26, 2016, in Baltimore.

Chris Davis hit his seventh career grand slam, and the AL East leaders staged another power-packed performance in a 12-5 rout Sunday that extended Tampa Bay’s losing streak to 11 games.

Adam Jones added two hits, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Joey Rickard registered two hits, including a double for the Orioles, who scored in six straight innings between the third and eighth frames to secure their fourth consecutive victory.

Seeking his 10th straight win in the nightcap, Orioles starter Chris Tillman gave up six runs and 10 hits in five innings.

The Orioles scored in double digits for the seventh time this season and had 17 hits. How about a chance to win two games in one day? He’s been ought against us, Wieters said. Tampa Bay has been outscored 60-24 during this horrid stretch.

That home run set the stage for a four-run rally that would completely flip the game in Baltimore’s favor and turn every frown inside Camden Yards upside down.

Jason Kipnis hit two of Cleveland’s four triples and the Indians continued their season-long dominance of the Tigers with a 7-4 victory Friday night at Detroit.

Rookie Ashur Tolliver (1-0) got two outs in the sixth to earn his first major league win and Zach Britton worked the ninth for his 22nd save.

“It makes it a little bit easier to do some things”, Showalter said.

After the Rays’ skid reached nine games with a 5-0 loss to Baltimore in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday, Cash sat in his office and tried to make sense of it all.

The Rays couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in this one, scoring three runs before right-hander Yovani Gallardo got an out. “Then the fifth and the sixth came along”, Cash lamented.

The Orioles started quickly as Jones walked to open the bottom of the first while Joey Rickard and Machado both singled to load the bases.

Tampa Bay reliever Enny Romero was helped off the mound after a line drive headed toward his head struck him the palm of his left hand. “It’s kind of a different situation being the guy who is only going to be here for the day”, Farquhar said.

Baltimore recalled LHP T.J. McFarland from Triple-A Norfolk as its 26th player.

Rays: OF Brandon Guyer (left hamstring strain) began his rehab assignment by going 0 for 4 with a strikeout as the designated hitter for Class A Charlotte against Bradenton.

Orioles: RHP Vance Worley (groin strain) was scheduled to pitch for Double-A Bowie in his first rehab appearance since going on the DL on June 14. He lowered his ERA from 4.37 to 3.93. The Arkansas product is 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA in eight career games against the Orioles, but missed them in each of the two previous series the teams played earlier this season.
