A massive cleanup is underway after much of Calgary was battered by an intense summer storm on Tuesday.

Heavy rain, hail and strong winds whipped through Calgary on Tuesday evening, leaving considerable damage in their wake.
“It appears the storm has had a wide impact to various areas of the city”.
Calgary Emergency Management Agency deputy chief Sue Henry says the biggest issue they found was catch basins backing up because of the deluge of hail and leaves that had been ripped off of trees.
Both 311 and 911 experienced high call volumes during the storm. “Fortunately, it occurred during a shift change that allowed 911 staff that were oncoming and off-going to be able to answer calls”. Emergency workers responded to 440 calls for assistance.
Power outages have been reported in parts of the city, affecting about 1,000 customers.
Two storms were being tracked through the area, one near Bragg Creek and another over western Calgary.

Some Calgary commuters discovered the storm is still causing detours on westbound Memorial Drive just past Edmonton Trail and the Inglewood Underpass at Ninth Avenue under Blackfoot Trail.
