Expeditions works with Google Cardboard with an Android phone inside of it, but you can also use it with just an Android tablet or phone in a 2D “magic window” mode.

Google has announced a bunch of updates and improvements to their tools that can be used in the classroom.

The tool is easy to use in the sense that the teacher only has to launch the Google Cast, which is a Chrome app, and start their lesson. The app works with the Google Classroom service and runs on the teacher’s computer that’s plugged into a projector, so there’s no additional hardware needed.

Google is taking education seriously. Launched in September of a year ago, these virtual reality trips have already brought more than a million students to more than 200 hundred places around the world.

Expedition has helped students amass experiences that they had never thought of before according to Mary Cullinane, Chief Content Officer at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Furthermore, Google’s Expeditions kit is now available to all schools. Teachers turn their main computer into a Cast destination and then can approve Cast requests from students on a case by case basis. Quizzes in Google Forms can also now automatically grade multiple choice and checkbox questions so that teachers can get this part of grading off their plates. The feature also lets teachers guide students to resources like YouTube videos or supplemental websites, based on what they get wrong.

The last announcement made by Google was the collection of creative apps that can be bought in a bundle. These include Explain Everything, Soundtrap and WeVideo.

The search giant is now making these kits available on Best Buy for $9,999, so that anyone can purchase without going through the lengthy sign-up process.
