The X Factor and Xtra Factor will return this autumn on ITV and ITV2.

The pair were then seen standing in matching suits in front of 10 Downing Street, where the 10 had been replaced by the X Factor logo.

It was confirmed today that BBC Radio 1 DJ Matt Edmondson will take on the role, taking over from Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom.

Now that Matt is in, former hosts Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom are out.

Richard Holloway, Managing Director, Thames TV and acting CEO, FremantleMedia UK said: “Matt is a very amusing guy and his irreverent, humorous take on the world, along with our new live format, is set to make for a great series of Xtra Factor”.

Many other names had been linked to this year’s series, with rumoured presenters including Rylan Clark-Neal, Laura Whitmore, Nicky Byrne, Roman Kemp and George Shelley.

And in a massive change to the spin off show’s format, Xtra will be going live from the first episode. what could possibly go wrong? The show will feature live interviews with contestants who appeared on the audition show, plus reactions from celebrity guests and interaction with fans on social media.

“He will bring plenty of fun to what will be an entirely new Xtra Factor”. All four judges – Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell – are expected to be in attendance on Friday.

Interestingly Matt was linked with the role in 2011, before Olly Murs and Caroline Flack were announced as the new presenters of the show.
