Area Red Cross sends volunteers to W. Va. floods
Locally, the Bluefield Professional Firefighters Local 347 and the city of Bluefield have teamed up to collect donations of supplies for the flood victims in Greenbrier County, according to Scottie Dingus, the firefighters local public relations director. We’ve collected a number of items, supplies, and goods that are needed that will truly impact the region.

“Honestly, it’s a tremendous thing to see the community within Berkeley County come to assist when we were not affected by the storms that were affected down south”, said Cpl.
The department is collecting donations at their headquarters on East Market Street until 4 p.m. Monday. The West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and the state’s National Guard also worked to assist residents.
“This is going to be a long-term recovery process”, Linger said.
You can drop off donations at 7112 Angola Rd., Holland, during business hours, from 7:00AM-6:00PM. In addition to items listed below we will also be accepting monetary donations.
” On June 23, 2016, a historic flood hit West Virginia, leaving 24 individuals dead, destroying homes and businesses, and devastating entire communities”. She said residents also checked into several independent shelters.
The Maine volunteers are joining hundreds of disaster worker providing meals, relief supplies and assistance to first responders. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-priced loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

The Red Cross has information on its website about becoming a volunteer and donating to the West Virginia flooding victims online. Since the flooding began, there have been almost 1,200 overnight shelter stays supported by the Red Cross.
