Abbott new shadow health secretary after Heidi Alexander resignation
The comments come amid mounting opposition to Mr Corbyn’s leadership, with 23 members of the shadow cabinet handing in their resignation over the last two days.

Corbyn has resisted pressure to quit over what critics say was his lacklustre effort to keep Britain inside the European Union, saying on Sunday that he would stand again in any leadership election triggered by the party revolt.

Thousands of pro-Jeremy Corbyn activists gathered in Parliament Square on Monday night (27 June) to voice their support for the Labour leader as he faces a coup attempt. “Rather than finding imaginative ways for Labour to present a united front and get its message across to wavering supporters, Corbyn vetoed a planned event featuring all Labour’s formers leaders”.

A spokesman for Mr Corbyn said the leader was “categorically not” told to quit by Mr Watson.
Senior Labour MPs called on West Bromwich East MP Mr Watson, now the deputy leader, to take over “to stabilise the party”.
“It will be for the Parliamentary Labour Party themselves to work out how this is resolved and the implications it will have for the wider party”.
The shadow business secretary, Angela Eagle, has become the latest high-profile Labour MP to step down from Jeremy Corbyn’s cabinet today.
“I am not going to betray the trust of those who voted for me – or the millions of supporters across the country who need Labour to represent them”.
The Labour leader sacked his foreign policy chief Hilary Benn early on Sunday after Benn said he had lost confidence in the ability of Corbyn, who is on the party’s far left, to lead Labour.

The three are among more than 50 candidates who stood for Labour at the general election in May a year ago and have urged the beleaguered leader to move aside. Meanwhile, a number of senior trade unionists on Labour’s ruling national executive committee rallied in support of Corbyn.
